Hometown Hero

I recently had the great opportunity to take some PR photos for Troy Yocum and his adorable dog Emmie. They are embarking on the “Drum Hike” this month…. and their starting right here in downtown Louisville!

Troy is an Iraq War Vet and he is getting ready to walk across America- yep- that’s 7,000 miles… to raise money for military families in need.  It will take him 16 months and he plans to raise 5 million dollars!!

Troy is really an amazing man. His easy going personality makes him the perfect person to bring attention to the problem of soldiers and their familes who fall into great financial need after they return from battle. Ok- and it certainly won’t hurt to have Emmie “the Superdog”, as he calls her, by his side!

Troy’s grandfather died after suffering extreme difficulties on this return from World War II, and that gave Troy the passion at a young age to lead a massive fundraising effort to help soldiers.  After his return from serving in the Middle East, he began to plan his walk across America- raising money the whole way.  He begins his trip here in Louisville on April 17th ( Thunder Day). He will start at the “big bat” downtown and end up that day at Slugger Field to be honored in a Military Tribute Ceremony.

Little Emmie is his faithful companion. She will be wearing both a white pedometer (above) and a blue camera (below).

Emmie will be taking images every 20 minutes with her own camera! You can see it here, it

How cute is Emmie?  And don’t worry about her getting too worn out on the walk. She has her own RV so she can take breathers. But she’s used to walking 25 miles a day!

The wonderful Dog is Good is supporting Troy on his walk, and produced the t-shirt that Troy is wearing. Please consider purchasing a shirt for $20 on their website because the proceeds go to Troy’s mission!

And if you’d like to follow along with Troy, he has all the details of his trip on his website at www.drumhike.com.

This is a great opportunity to support a person who is really putting Louisville on the map in a positive way. Way to go Troy and Emmie!!
